Adventurous "Muka Tebal" mission

Break the barrier, that’s the first this I had to do. I joined two events and I just brought my dSLR and anxiously slot-in myself among the professional photographers.

Two events are as the followings;
a. Gaza Charity Dinner at the Palma hotel on 24th April 2009 – I didn’t post those pictures. It was BAD. REALLY BAD, you know what I mean. I got out early to join Bangi TT at 11pm…

b. My friend’s wedding on 25th April 2009 – went there a day after. I’ve post some of the pictures at picasa

For both events, I felt a bit awkward shooting alongside the professional photographer seeing that they have complete accessories (while I don’t have the flash, battery grip etc) but oh well, I just jump in to get a feel.

Whew, I didn’t know this mission would take a lot of energy…

Site Visit at KLIA Aviation Terminal

Since the company I'm working with have the petronas license and the client also is the Petronas affiliate company, we received a RFQ from the them and we would like to look into opportunity there.

I've been asked by the client to have a compulsory site visits at KLIA Aviation Terminal. This is the terminal where the fuel is stored and the fuel truck will collect the fuel to the airport. Basically the visits is to determine which parts of the Fire alarm system need to be replaced.

It's the first time for us to approach them and quite a few of the regular vendor that the client already know during the site visit. I know it is quite tough for us to break the market. We have to strategize what is the best approach to win the job. Otherwise, it would be a waste of time.

Seeing that the production activity there is not as fast paced as the Oil & Gas upstream sector, so I would say that the competition is not as cruel but not a good profit margin to get. I'll try to get few quotes just to test the market. See how it goes...

However, this is also another opportunity for me to sharpen my photo skills on how to get good industrial photos.

While others brought only normal point & shoot camera and even hand phone camera to take the picture of the parts, I brought my dSLR to take mainly cool pictures at site. Hehehe...:P

Double Trouble

My friend & I joined the match both single & double in the Amateur Ping Pong Tournament organized by ADUN Bangi.

We are not seriously prepared for the match, in fact, never had a practice because we are too busy with works! But we much enjoyed and had fun even though we had severely beaten by the opponent(s).
Hahaha...

This is also my opportunity for me to sharpen my photo skills to get a feel on how to take sports photography. It is quite difficult because of the object is always in fast motion.

While taking the photos, there was one guy approached me introduce himself as one of the Ping Pong club and invited me to join the forum www.pp4m.com and post my pictures in the forum. Well, at least I gain a friend while I was losing the competition.

Entering to the World of Photography

Assalamualaikum and good day. I'm Ariff and just started photography as a hobby.

Basically, I'm quite interested with the photography but not that seriously before this. I bought standard point and shoot camera back then and always took macro-like pictures, since that is the only maximum capacity to take beautiful pictures.

Then one day, my wife told me about her friends' husband, the photographer that happened to be a famous Wedding Photographer in Malaysia, Saiful Nang. Well, I'm not that suprised until we were looking at his blog and website. All of his work truly captured my heart.

My families comes from the art lover and practitioner. My late grandfather likes photography that have his own darkroom in his house. He's also a violinist that he made the violin himself. My uncle is the sculptor. My Aunt was a violinist and now one of the director of Aswara. My dad was a guitarist when he worked as government servant. Seeing that the art is in my family's blood and I'm also quite an art lover (music & photography) myself.

That is why I couldn't wait any longer and do the survey which DSLR is suitable for me. After looking and searching, I finally bought Sony Alpha 200 (since I'm Sony [PS3!!] enthusiast) with two kitlens package couple of days before Eidul Fitr.

Couple of months after, I bought another lens which is good for close-up portrait 50mm f.1.4 and just few days before, I just bought Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC Macro.

Looking at this, it seems that it is more than just a hobby. Perhaps, this my journey to be a professional photographer...still a lot to learn though.
